The History of Collingwood Baptist Church
Collingwood Baptist Church was founded with 24 members on November 12, 1911. A congregation had been meeting together with this goal in mind since June 6,1909 starting with only about half a dozen people. We dedicated our first building on July 9, 1911, before the congregation had even been formally organized (but back then it was just an auditorium and a coal furnace room).
We sent out our first missionary, Letty Pudney, in 1943 and she served faithfully in Chile until her death in 1998. Her husband George continued to serve there until he passed away in 2009 at the age 101!.
Remarkably, in our 100 year history, Collingwood Baptist has had only ten senior pastors. Although the average term of a senior pastor in North America is only three years, our pastors stay an average of ten years. This means that here at Collingwood, our pastor gets to know us, and we get to know him. This closer relationship provides a source of stability in a rapidly changing society. Pastor Rick has been our senior pastor since 1998.
